New Delhi: A year after a 42-year-old mentally challenged man went missing from his home in Mumbai, was reunited with his family by Delhi Police.

The victim identified as Romain Talathi was handed over to his family after the Delhi Police (metro unit) locate the man's family. Soon after receiving his whereabouts, his relatives from Mumbai reached Delhi.

According to police, on August 28 around 2 pm, they learnt from the station controller of Pragati Maidan that a person aged between 40-45 was sitting at Pragati Maidan metro station.

He was not revealing his name and address.

"Despite repeated efforts by DMRC, CISF and police, the person did not speak anything. The investigating officer (IO) then brought him to the police station and gave him food and tried to comfort him," police said.

After some time, when the IO again made enquiries, he only stated that his name is Romain Talati and he resides in Harsh Niketan Dahisar.

On the basis of the above information, it came to notice that Dahisar was a police station in Mumbai.

The IO contacted the police official of Dahisar police station and enquired about the Harsh Niketan. They stated that this is a residential apartment.

Information regarding Romain was shared and requested them to find his family.

The enquiry made by Mumbai police staff revealed that the victim was the resident of an apartment in Dahisar East Mumbai. His mother has been contacted who stated that he is their only son.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Vikram Porwal said that on August 24, 2018, he had left the house without informing anyone and since then he has been missing. A missing report has already been lodged in Dahisar Mumbai police station in this regard.

"He was mentally challenged and was undergoing treatment in Mumbai. His parents used to lock him inside the house as he had a tendency of fleeing the house. On August 24, 2018, the door was left open and he ran away from his house. The family had contacted all his relatives in Mumbai. They had also advertised the same in newspapers," said DCP metro.

Police said Romain could not reply to the question where he lived in Delhi or even how he had come to Delhi. Even when his parents had come he could not answer the same to his parents.
