NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is all set to launch technology-based automated tests for drivers to get the licence in January, asserted the transport minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot on Tuesday. This step will reduce the number of road accidents as it will stop non-qualified people from getting the license.
"We are making the whole system technology bases and sign a memorandum of understanding with Maruti company regarding this issue," said Gahlot.
The minister explained that in this new system the whole test will be recorded in the CCTV around and the cameras will be present inside the car also. From June 2018, every applicant for a driving licence in Delhi will have to take the new driving skill test at 10 automated test centres coming up in different parts of the city.
The high-tech test tracks will have tougher conditions which aspirants will have to fulfil before they can hope to get a permanent driving licence.
"The main target of this project is to select the qualified people only. We will not allow any officials around who will take the decision. The decision will be on the based of the video recorded on the cameras," he said.
The main target of the government is to stop the involvement of the licensing officer who till date serves as the prime person to issue the driving license.
Hauz Khas, Shakur Basti, Raja Garden and Hari Nagar, Rohini, Dwarka and Jharoda Kalan. The rest will be in Burari, Sarai Kale Khan and Loni Road, are the centres, the minister said.
"We will inaugurate the first of such centres at Sarai Kale Khan on January 26," said Gahlot. The minister said that this whole process would be done in the coming three to four months and all the centres would become active. The minister also added that one such automated track will cost nearly Rs 1 Crore.
