NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is all set to put in place a pollution prediction model, which will give air quality forecasts for up to 72 hours. The mechanism will be of international quality and the Delhi government will control the full system.
The initiative will include studying the possibility of using technology to ascertain the source of air pollution at designated spots in collaboration with the University of Washington, developing a model for forecasting of air pollution scenario and setting up 1,000 indoor display panels inside all government buildings dealing with the public to display information on air pollution levels.
"When pollution peaks, we want to be better prepared. We do not want to be in a reactive mode and do firefighting when we can pre-empt situations and take preventive actions. This model will be on the lines of System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research," the official said.
