National Green Tribunal chairperson Justice Swantanter Kumar on Saturday applauded the efforts of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for treating sewarage in an environmentally sustainable manner and agency's the horticulture department for excellent upkeep of green areas in the Capital.
Inaugurating the sewerage treatment plant (STP) at Nehru Park, Justice Kumar said he was "impressed with the sustainable practices being adopted by the Council."
"Decentralised sewerage treatment plant is exceptionally good. Use of such simple technologies and cost effective methods will not only preserve the environment but also enrich it. I request other local bodies of Delhi and the country to study this model for replication,'' added Justice Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar informed that in order to conserve resources in New Delhi area, NDMC has decided to set-up 10 decentralised STPs on a public private partnership (PPP) model within this year.
The STP at Nehru Park boasts of a capacity of 500 kilo litres per day. Explaining the USP of the plant setup at Nehru Park, Kumar said: "The plant is based on green technology, namely Solid Bio-Technology, which is one-of-its-kind and has many benefits like no noise pollution, no air pollution, no odour nuisance.''
He further said: ''NDMC had earlier setup a first of its kind STP in New Delhi, which is based on Membrane Bio-Reactor Technology at Shanti Path, Moti Bagh.''
