A school for destitute children in Jharsa village in Gurugram was closed down after certain local residents in the area attacked two of its teachers on Monday. While the two arrests have been made in the case, the founder of the school Amit Garg fears that there will be a severe retaliation by the locals in the area.

Garg, who also works for a multinational company in Gurugram cited that of late, the certain local population of Jharsa have adopted hostile approach towards the teaching staff and the students of the school and wanted the school to close down completely. The school operating under a charitable trust has been running for five years and provides free education to almost 300 students. Most of the students, according to the teaching staff, belong to poor households. The teaching staffs of the school comprise of the volunteers who are either retired professors or people working in multi-national companies.

"Our school has achieved a lot and two of our students have also been selected for the National Olympiad. Most of my colleagues are well settled in our professions. We cannot risk our lives if the locals are going to start attacking us," said Garg. Discussing the difficulties in dealing with the law, he said, "Initially we were asked for a settlement. Later when we met senior officials, FIR was registered and action was taken. Even as there have been two arrests, they will soon be out on bail. Under these circumstances, I have closed down the school."
