Amidst all the anxiety surrounding engineering and medical courses, science students appear to be steadily moving towards Delhi University where colleges offer them specialisation courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics.
These B.Sc (Hons) courses hog the limelight everyyear and are expected to do the same this year, even as high cut-offs keep students on their toes. Kirori Mal College (KMC), which offers various science courses, has the highest allotment of seats for science courses in DU, with 458 seats out of 1,358.
Courses such as B.Sc in Analytical Chemistry, which is only taught at KMC, have piqued the interest of aspirants applying for DU and have generated a lot of interest among prospective students.
A college professor, privy to details on science courses in the college, said: "Chemistry and Mathematics are the hottest fields right now, interest has surged among the students and our college continues to nurture that interest."
Talking about the course, associate professor in Department of Chemistry, Kalpana Bharara, said: "BSc in Analytical Chemistry is a unique course taught only in this college, with roots in separation chemistry and is very instrumental in job prospects as well."
She added that every year there are around 35-40 students, who enrol for the course and the tuition fees was around Rs 10,000 for the whole year.
A college official said in a statement: "BSc Analytical Chemistry is a viable option for those who want to study separation chemistry at Masters level."
