With an aim to provide pollution-free and last-mile connectivity to its commuters, the Green Ride public bicycle sharing scheme has opened free ride to the students who can seamlessly reach their destination within 30 minutes in Delhi University North Campus.

Five such eco-friendly cycles units were inaugurated on April, 2017. It seeks to provide connectivity across various colleges of Delhi University and also to provide hassle free up and down from the Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station Gate No -3.

As per the eco-friendly project, five bike shelters has been built in North Campus, Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station, Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, GTB Nagar Metro Station, and Hansraj College from where any students can hire any cycle and then ride it to the station. They can leave it there in the bicycle shelter.

If one is a member, he or she can park the cycle outside the shelter but others have to showcase their UID card while both borrowing and returning the cycle. Members generally park the two-wheelers outside the Ramjas College which is also being used by students of Hindu College, St. Stephen's College, Kirori Mal College, Daulat Ram College and Delhi School of Economics.

Ankit, second year B. Sc (Zoology) student, who is a regular rider said, "Taking out Rs 20 for a student on a daily basis to reach the metro station from college, is a big hassle. Many of my friends use this service while coming and going back." Nearly 120 cycles are available at nine shelters of North Campus, Delhi University. "These cycles are equipped with Radio-Frequency Identification ( RFID) through which we can track each and every bike. Meanwhile, any damage occurred to cycle during the ride are being carried by Green Ride only," said Sanjiv Garg, Director, Green Ride.

"This is an initiative to teach the relevance of by-cycle in making the environment pollution free and hoping the students will learn and incorporate cycle ride in their daily routine," he added.
