Two minors riding a cycle were rammed by a speeding truck in North West Delhi's Kalyanvihar road area on Sunday.
One of them died while his friend is battling for his life at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital.
The truck driver fled the area when a crowd started to gather at the accident site.
The police are on the lookout for the driver and are confident that he will be apprehended.
The deceased has been identified as Manoj (15), while his companion has been identified as Mukesh.
The police had received a PCR call informing them about a road accident that took place near Gupta Colony.
An angry crowd, gathered at the spot, informed the police about the accident upon their arrival.
The police had questioned a few people from the spot. The eyewitnesses reported that the two boys near Kalyanvihar road, were taking a right turn, when the incoming truck rammed into them.
"The cyclist had taken a right turn when the truck came out of nowhere. The truck driver tried to apply breaks but was unable to avert the accident. He ran over the two boys who sustained grievous injuries," said Deputy Commissioner of Psolice (North-West), Milind Mahadeo Dumbre.
Manoj was declared brought dead on arrival while the police reported that Mukesh had sustained serious injuries.
"We are still trying to find out about the profile of the two boys. The truck's owner has been traced and we have managed to identify the truck driver," Dumbre added.
