Delhi State Election Commission informed on Thursday that one ward in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and one in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD) will go to polls on May 14 and May 21, respectively.
The two wards are Maujpur in East Delhi and Sarai Pipal in North Delhi.
The elections to these wards were deferred on account of demise of two candidates, both of whom belonged to the Samajwadi Party.
"Elections to the two wards had been postponed. Polling in ward no 40-E, Maujpur will be held on May 14, while polling in ward no 16-N in Sarai Pipal will take place on May 21," a senior official of Delhi State Election Commission said.
The erstwhile unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi was trifurcated into North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations in 2012.
Out of the total 272 wards, the North MCD and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation have 104 seats each, while the EDMC has 64.
The MCD had been ruling by the BJP for the last 10 years. The party won a third consecutive term after winning the recently concluded Municipal elections in April.
