The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) with the help of Delhi Police took an action against the illegal commercial activity on drugs, alcohol and gambling in North Delhi's New Seemapuri.
Along with an arrest of 56 people, seven cases were registered under the Public Gambling Act and two under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
The ill practices came to fore after Commission organised a Mahila Panchayat programme in the New Seemapuri area. While interacting with the local women, the DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal received complaints about the ongoing illegal business of drugs, alcohol and gambling in the area.
According to the women, such illegal activities amplified criminal acts and made it difficult for girls and women to live safely in the locality.
