New Delhi: More than 2,000 cases of heinous crime have been reported this year till June, according the Delhi Police data, with cops claiming that the crime detection rate has increased by eight per cent, compared to last year.
According to the data, accessed by Millennium Post, till June this year, as many as 2,955 cases of heinous crimes were reported, compared to 3,180 in the corresponding period last year.
"There has been a decrease of around seven per cent, compared last year," said a senior police officer.
Talking about the detection rate of cases, police claimed it has increased to 85 per cent, compared to last year's 77 per cent.
The data also claims that there was a decline of around 25 per cent in cases of street crime. Last year, around 6,100 street crimes were reported till June, whereas the number fell to 4,563 this year. Cops said they are working hard and putting all efforts to make sure that the city remains safe.
On Monday, Delhi Police, in its official Twitter handle, said, "Law and order in National Capital is under control. The years 2018 and 2017 have seen reduction in Heinous Crimes as compared to earlier years. Similarly there is substantial reduction in Street crime &detection rate of heinous crimes has also improved@LtGovDelhi @ArvindKejriwal."
The tweet came hours after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Law and order in the capital of India is deteriorating by the day. BJP has completely failed."
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also gave her views through Twitter, where she said, "Wish Delhi Police would work towards improving Law & Order than coming up with silly arguments in its defense. Little girls are raped, suicides are committed in police stations, illegal liquor and drugs being sold all over, trafficking is at an all time high!"
In the last three years, more than 300 cases of human trafficking were reported in the national Capital, revealed the data of Delhi Police.
The law enforcement agency claimed that it has tightened the noose on traffickers, which led to rescue of over 300 girls. Cops also arrested 271 persons involved in cases of human trafficking.
