Cricket academy coach held for duping young cricketers
His another associate Haris Jamal, a part-time coach of a school, were also arrested;
New Delhi: Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested a coach of cricket academy and his associate for deceiving cricketers and taking money from them in return of giving them a chance in the Ranji Trophy.
According to police, on receipt of a complaint from Anshuman Upadhyay, Regional Integrity Manager, BCCI wherein it was mentioned that some unscrupulous persons are cheating young cricketers on the pretext of getting them placed in Ranji Trophy and other tournaments.
"Complaints of Kanishka Gaur and Shivam were annexed with the letter of BCCI. Kanishk Gaur were cheated of Rs 11 lakh on pretext of giving him chance as a guest player but he was given opportunity only for two matches under 19 years category from another state as a local player by preparing forged birth certificate etc," said police adding that Rs 4 lakh was taken from another boy Shivam for giving him an opportunity under 23 years category but he was not given any chance.
A case was registered under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120 B of IPC at Crime Branch police station on March 3. A team of crime branch under supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) Rajiv Ranjan led by ACP (crime) Jasbir Malik started their probe.
Police further said that during investigation, accused Ravi Dalal, a coach of Friends Acadamy, Pitampura, had taken money from Kanishk Gaur and given it to another accused Haris Jamal, a part-time coach of a Delhi-based school, has been arrested and taken on police remand. Further investigation is in progress. Police said that in some cases, they are given just one chance and then turned away so that fresh batch of unsuspecting young cricketers can be cheated with an idea of getting more money are the contents of the complain," sources further said.
"This illegal act operating in a very organised manner is causing great loss to the reputation of BCCI, the career of young cricketers and their hard-earned money," the complainant told the police. The suspects in the case also organised a cricket match in the name of the trial of Jamshedpur and Ranchi. The complainants also provided substantial evidence (payment details, account statement, flight tickets).
