New Delhi: To fight the issue of burning firecrackers, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)-led task force has joined the campaign urging people not to burn firecrackers.
In its "clear air campaign" ahead of the festive season, the pollution control agency has come forward to take the initiative to curb air pollution in the national Capital.
The decision was taken in a review meeting on Friday. Meanwhile, the CPCB has also stepped up its action against violators and placed as many as 46 teams across the city.
These teams will report any violations contributing to the rise in pollution levels and resolve them, CPCB member secretary Prashant Gargava told reporters.
At the review meeting, Gargava said the 10-member CPCB task force on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which lists measures to be followed as per air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, asked state pollution control boards to remain vigilant and closely monitor air quality.
The task force also asked agencies to ensure immediate actions to control road dust. It was revealed in the meeting that garbage dumping, unpaved roads and road dust are some of the major reasons for air pollution in Delhi.
"In the last three review meetings of the task force, a specific action plan has been developed to deal with pollution caused due to unpaved roads, dumping of waste and heavy vehicles," another CPCB official said.
He said day and night patrolling and monitoring in high emission or priority areas has also been intensified. The task force has recommended numerous measures to reduce vehicular pollution in the next few months, including encouraging employees in corporates to work from home or use public transport.
