Counting Day over: Police ensured conduct of peaceful LS polls

New Delhi: Since 2018, the Delhi Police was preparing for the Lok Sabha polls 2019. The law enforcement agency made sure that no untoward incident took place in the biggest festival of democracy.

According to senior officials, no untoward incident was reported from the city including counting centres on Thursday.

"Full proof security arrangements were in place for the counting day. No major incident was reported," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.

Police sources told Millennium Post that the Delhi Police Commissioner was monitoring the whole election.

"Before the election date was announced, the city police started planning for the security arrangements," sources added.

For election, the Delhi Police had also reshuffled their police personnel. Critical polling booths were also analysed after the Delhi Police headquarters (PHQ) had asked all the districts to conduct proper checkings in booths in their respective areas where the previous election was held and submit a report to them.

The city police districts had also sent a report to Delhi Police headquarters (PHQ) regarding the criminal cases reported during the general elections in the year 2014.

An interstate meeting was held on February 19 where officers from 10 city police districts and from Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat, Jhajjar and Gautam Budh Nagar , had participated.

"Movement of musclemen, smuggling of liquior, contraband items, money, election-related printed material, firearms/weapons, deposition of licensed firearms as per the guidelines of ECI and execution of pending NBWs were the issues discussed," sources said.

Delhi Police Election Cell at Police Headquarters (PHQ) had also written to the districts regarding the improper functioning of districts election cells.

Delhi Police chief held several meetings with other officers regarding election preparations.The top cop reviewed measures taken by the districts for safe election.

Delhi Police on polling day has received 337 PCR calls regarding election-related complaints. Owing to maximum visibility of the police force, no untoward incident was reported.

In all the 15 districts, the city police show their humanitarian face helping people especially senior citizens to reach polling booths.
