Ghaziabad/Bulandshahr: A sub-inspector of UP police, posted at a police station in district Bulandshahr, was arrested by Ghaziabad police when he was trying to flee after gunshot from his service revolver accidentally killed another sub-inspector posted in same police station.

According to a senior cop, the incident took place on Friday night around 11:45 pm at BB Nagar police station in Bulandshahr when the deceased identified as Vijendra (57) had gone to SI Narendra's (53) room to get a beedi.

Deceased Vijendra lived at police quarters at the upper floors of police station while Narendra lived at police quarters constructed behind the police station. "As both used to smoke beedi together and there was no attached washroom present at Narendra's room, he went to the deceased's room to use toilet. He also took along his service revolver so as to keep it safe with him," said Santosh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bulandshahr.

The officer further said that when Narendra reached the deceased's room, he kept his revolver on table but as it was loaded the bullet accidentally got fired and hit his abdomen. The bullet went pass through his body injuring backbone as well. "Prima Facie it do not appear that Narendra had intentionally fired bullet at the deceased as both were posted in same police station and were friends. Also after the incident, Narendra took him to hospital in his private car. However, when doctors referred victim to higher medical center, Narendra left the spot after telling other cops present there that he is going to his room to get money for treatment. But instead of going room, he tried to flee away in his private car," the SSP added.

Police traced the accused through surveillance system and informed Ghaziabad police after his last location was traced between Hapur and Ghaziabad.

"Following the information received, police intensified checking and the accused was arrested from Masuri area late in night when he was travelling in his car," said Kalanidhi Naithani, Senior Superintendent of Ghaziabad police.
