New Delhi: "Beta, mai tumko papa ke paas le jaane aaya hu. As soon as I said this, the child raised both his arms and clung on to me. I will not forget this in my entire life," said DCP Crime Ram Gopal Naik, who rushed to another room to ensure that the child was safe while the encounter was taking place in the rest of the flat. DCP Ram Naik personally supervised the rescue operation.
"It was an extremely emotional situation. I was so relived to see the child safe and sound even after 12 days of the kidnapping. After all, the child's safety was our top priority. When the child embraced me, that feeling is beyond words to express. Our efforts finally resulted in the child's safe rescue," said Naik.
DCP (Crime Branch) who personally supervised the entire rescue operation was himself present with his team when the cops decided to carry out the final crackdown. Fortunately, when the shootout took place late on Monday night, the child was in another room making the task of the raiding team easier.
"We were following them for a long time but since the child's safety was our top priority, we were extra cautious. Any wrong move by the police team would have had direct implications on the safety of the child. So, our team made sure that no chances were taken. We even instructed our officers not to open fire if the child is seen with the kidnappers," tells Ram Gopal Naik, DCP Crime.
The raiding party also had a Delhi Police commando ready to shoot and the officers wore bullet proof jackets as they had an idea that the kidnappers are armed.
"Our only concern was to neutralise the kidnappers before they could harm the child. Since they carried weapons and fired at us, we had to make sure no attacker could reach the child during the shootout," Naik said.
