Noida: Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Wednesday arrested five persons who allegedly falsely reported a robbery of Rs 8 lakh cash outside an ICICI Bank branch in Sector-18
market in Noida, in order to cheat one of the partners of their call centre.
According to police, the arrested accused were running a fake call centre in Sector-62 area of Noida,
The arrested men were identified as Dilip Prasad, Vipin, Durgesh Mishra, Sumit Kumar and Rahul Kumar.
While Prasad, Vipin and Mishra are all natives of Faridabad district of Haryana, Sumit belongs to Amroha while Rahul is a resident of Delhi's Mayur Vihar Phase-3.
Cops are now looking for Pawan and Rupesh, owners of the call centre who have been absconding since the police raid at the call centre on Wednesday evening.
Police said that Prasad, Vipin and Mishra have accounts under fake names in different banks in Delhi, Noida and Faridabad, and offered these accounts to people to deposit their money without any scrutiny at 13 per cent interest.
"All the accused had a fake account in ICICI Bank of sector-18 and it was lent to Pawan and Rupesh, who are owners of an unregistered call centre in Sector-62. It was Pawan who approached Dilip and asked him to withdraw Rs 8 lakh cash from their joint account in the bank and stage a fake robbery complaint, so that he can keep the share of Rupesh. He promised to pay Rs 2 lakh to the trio as their cut," said Arun kumar Singh, Superintendent of police (City), Noida.
On April 5, the robbery of Rs 8 lakh was reported outside the ICICI Bank branch, where Durgesh and Vipin told police that some unknown persons had snatched their bag full of cash worth Rs 8 lakh at gunpoint.
