NEW DELHI: Delhi Power Minister Satyender Jain on Monday once again expressed his anguish over the Centre not supplying coal to thermal power plants in Delhi and NCR.
The minister expressed apprehension over a possible blackout that the Capital may face in the next two days, because power plants do not have reserve coal for 24 hours.
Addressing the media here, Jain again slammed Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal for the shortage and said he had written to Goyal on May 17 but the latter has not responded yet.
"There is no coal in power plants in the NCR. Dadri I, II, Badarpur, Jhajhar (plants), none of them has stock (coal) for more than one day. We always had extra power but today there is no extra power. If any problem arises, there will be a blackout This is a man-made disaster in making," Jain told reporters on Monday.
The Minister said that power plants used to have a reserve coal stock for 14 days. However, now the stocks are only for 24 hours.
Earlier in his letter to Goyal, Jain had stated, "It has also been gathered that this coal shortage is due to non-availability of transportation rakes/wagons with Indian Railways."
Jain also requested the Union Coal Minister to issue necessary instructions to resolve the issue and make sure that it does not repeat in the future.
"With the rising temperature and increasing power demand, this coal stock position is very alarming and needs immediate attention in order to avoid load shedding or any major grid incidence," Jain said in the letter.
