NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted images of a mobile snatching incident in East Delhi's Pandav Nagar and said footage from CCTV cameras installed by the AAP government will help the police nab the accused. A Twitter user on Tuesday shared a video in which two bike-borne men wearing helmets fled after snatching a woman's cell phone in Pandav Nagar. The woman could be seen running after the bike in the video.
"The CCTV cameras installed by @msisodia captured an incident in Pandav nagar today. It is difficult to say that this thief will be caught! But one of the benefits of this footage will be that now @DelhiPolice will have to lodge an FIR of snatching as opposed to that of missing," he tweeted in Hindi.
Sharing his tweet, Sisodia said, "The incident of snatching the mobile captured in CCTV. Nearly 50 CCTVs of Delhi government have been installed in Pandav Nagar and Patparganj villages recently. The police will find out with their help. Where will they escape?"
Asserting that the Delhi government was committed to ensure safety of women in the city, Sisodia had said a total of about three lakh CCTV cameras will be installed in Delhi as part of a project to boost security.
The AAP government has already begun work on installation of 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras. "And, tender process begun for another 1.5 lakh cameras. So, entire Delhi will have about three lakh cameras," Sisodia said. "Our sisters and daughters will get the biggest relief," Sisodia said.
The Deputy CM, who is also Delhi's Education Minister, said the cameras shall be installed separately for schools and buses. Earlier this month, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that the work would start on June 8.
Sisodia said the tender for installing 1.40 lakh CCTV cameras had been passed and a survey completed for 70,000 cameras. The entire project is likely to be completed by December, he had said.
