Noida: A Delhi Jal Board contract employee, aged 30, lost his life, while three others, including his girlfriend, sustained critical injuries when a vehicle crashed into a restaurant on NH-9 in Hapur on Monday night.

Police reports indicate that the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm when Ajitpal Singh from Bulandshahr was at Rajaji Haveli restaurant celebrating his girlfriend Akanksha Rani’s birthday.

The couple was departing after their meal when a fast-moving vehicle collided with the establishment, striking several people. Around four persons including a woman were hit by the car. One of them was severely injured. The car’s driver was young. He exited through the car’s window, eyewitnesses said.

Ajitpal was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital, while Akanksha and two others—Sandeep Kumar and Surendra Kumar from Jhunjhunu dist of Rajasthan—sustained severe injuries.

The restaurant’s CCTV captured the entire occurrence, showing the vehicle in the car park before it went out of control and crashed into the premises.

“Prima Facie it appears that the car’s driver had lost control over the vehicle and collided into the building before hitting the bystanders. However, the victim’s family has alleged foul play. Appropriate actions will be taken after we receive a complaint and we are tracing the car’s owner through registration number. Through CCTV, we are identifying the car’s driver who managed to flee after the crash” said Additional SP Vineet Bhatnagar, adding that authorities had impounded the vehicle and released the deceased’s body to the family following post-mortem.
