Greater Noida: In a second horrific accident on the 165-km-long Yamuna Expressway in the wee hours of Sunday, two persons died while 22 others were injured when an Uttar Pradesh State Roadways bus fell off the Expressway after colliding into the divider in Dankaur area of Greater Noida.
According to police, the incident occurred near Jaypee Sports City around 4.10 am.
The deceased have been identified Ram Kishan (47), a resident of Etawah, and Sagar Sharma (21), a native of Auraiya.
All occupants of the bus were travelling to Anand Vihar from Auraiya depot, before it fell of the expressway into the underpass area.
"We received a PCR call around 4.15 am about the incident from a passerby. A team of police reached the spot and rescued the passengers, after which they rushed them to Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida," said a senior police official of Dankaur police station.
Police suspect that the driver might have dozed off at the wheel, which caused the bus to fall off the expressway from a height of around 20 feet after hitting the divider.
Officials at Kailash Hospital said that Ram Kishan and Sharma were declared brought dead on arrival.
Police have informed the family members of the deceased and sent the body for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the bus driver, Pradeep suffered severe head injuries and is on ventilator support in the ICU at Kailash Hospital.
While people sitting in the front seats received serious injuries and are getting treatment, most of the other passengers were discharged after getting first aid.
A passenger, who was conscious at the time of the incident, said that most of the passengers were asleep when the accident took place.
"All of a sudden, I felt a massive jolt and the bus hit the right side of the wall, before falling on the ground. I fell unconscious and woke up at the hospital. My son received head injuries, while I survived with a hand fracture plus bruises," said Laxmi Devi, a passenger.
Meanwhile, family members of some victims alleged that the hospital authorities misbehaved with them and instead of providing first aid to the victims, they refused to admit the injured until fees were paid.
However, the hospital authorities denied the allegations and said basic first aid was given to the patients as soon as they arrived.
