Blinded by love, engineering student turned murderer

New Delhi: From an aspiring engineer in his fourth year to a murderer, Akash's tumultuous journey was a result of obsessive love for his girlfriend.

It started when Akash's girlfriend confided in him about her past relationship with 31-year-old tuition teacher Ankit, and told Akash that Ankit had been harassing her to meet him.

Akash decided to eliminate Ankit and began planning the murder. Back in March, Akash went to Baghpat and procured a country-made pistol for Rs 2,000.

Months later, on October 1, he found the right moment, went to Ankit's tuition centre in Mahendra Park and shot Ankit dead.

However, the motive behind Ankit's murder got twisted, as his family accused the brother of a woman he was in a relationship with for some time for the murder.

They suspected that Ankit was killed as his girlfriend's family, who belong to a different community, disapproved of the union.

However, investigation by Delhi Police debunked this angle as the woman's brother was found to have a solid alibi.

"Details of all current and previous students at the tuition centre were taken and they were thoroughly interrogated. Relatives and friends of the deceased were also examined at great length," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) on Friday.

Cops then dwelt deep into Ankit's social media accounts and call records, and found that he was in touch with a girl, who happened to be his ex-student at the coaching centre.

Cops located the girl and showed her CCTV footage of the prime suspect. She recognised the youth as her boyfriend Akash, whom she intended to marry.

In no time, cops nabbed Akash from his residence in Jahangirpuri and later arrested him.

Cops also recovered the murder weapon, the mask and a bag used by him at the time of the murder.
