Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation to go all out against dengue in Duttabad area

Kolkata: Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to act all out against dengue.

On Friday, Mayor of BMC Sabyasachi Dutta said from now on workers from health, conservancy and environment department will jointly work together to wipe out garbage and clear stagnant water from Duttabad area. He also informed, if needed, then workers will go inside the houses and clear out garbage. A medical camp has been set up in the locality.

According to Dutta, major areas of Duttabad have been affected by fever. Recently, a child died there due to dengue.

As the area is very unhygienic and the residents are not conscious enough about the consequences, they do not bother to keep the area and their homes clean. "We repeatedly urged people to clean their homes and clear stagnant water regularly. But it seemed to have not worked. Now, our health and conservancy workers will go inside their homes to clear garbage. Further time will not be granted. We will do it whether anyone cooperates or not," he said.

He informed that since Thursday a large number of workers from the three departments of BMC were deputed in the area. Apart from the garbage problem, BMC's another headache is the eleven ponds situated in the nearby areas of Duttabad.

Dutta further said BMC is going to put up a signboard stating the ponds belong to BMC. If anybody has any valid document regarding the ownership of any of the pond, then he or she needs to place it before BMC.

"We will clean each and every pond and put up signboards. Concerned Member Mayor-in-Council has already been instructed. If anybody produces valid document regarding the ownership of any pond, then he will be given the responsibility to clean it and use it for pisciculture. If none approaches us with valid documents, then BMC will lease out the ponds following all the legal procedures," Dutta added.

He also informed that health camps have already been set up at Duttabad. The health workers are visiting each home to locate if anyone is suffering from fever. If found necessary action will be taken to mark the exact cause of the fever.
