Gurugram: Being an ex-Gurugram HUDA chief administrator, Yashpal Yadav is not oblivious to Gurugram's problems. As he donned the role of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) chief on Monday, his main objective is to expedite the infrastructural works.
Besides this, he also wants to reduce the list of complaints from the residents regarding the civic issues of the city. For this, he has directed his officers to devote one hour each day to the complainants and be problem solvers.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) that was formed in 2008 has quickly emerged as the richest municipal body of the state. Despite its huge budget, the civic body has not been able to tackle major challenges like bad quality of internal roads, poor waste segregation system and water woes that continue to irk the citizens. Even as MCG now has begun to take stringent action against property tax defaulters, challenges now remain of expanding the base of tax payers.
There have been various charges of corruption that have been levelled at MCG, especially on the issue of not penalising the residential properties that operate as illegal guesthouses and commercial complexes.
Environmentalists have criticised the MCG officials for not finding a solution to effectively recycle the waste at Bandhwari landfill site where 1,200 tonnes of waste from Gurugram and Faridabad is dumped daily. Opened initially for recycling the waste into generating power and plastic, the site has been lying defunct for more than four years.
Even as the Municipal body signed a formal pact with a Chinese company to restart the plant, there is still no clarity on the operation and even now more than 90 trucks are dumping the garbage at the site daily. The project by the civic body to set up a construction and demolition plant at Basai has also run into legal troubles, thereby a large number of construction waste continues to be discarded at the green belt of the Aravallis.
At a time when the city is reeling from hazardous levels of air pollution, MCG has not been able to resolve the issue of pollution caused by dust and construction around the city.
