New Delhi: A young aspiring pilot was electrocuted to death when he touched an iron board next to an electric pole in south Dwarka, police said on Friday. The victim was identified as Bhavesh Parakh, while his three friends, who too were electrocuted, had a narrow escape.

The incident took place on Wednesday when the four aviation students, staying in a paying guest accomodation in Dwarka, had stepped outside during heavy rain for a coffee.

Around 9 pm, when the student reached Ramphal Chowk, near the iron board adjacent to an electric pole.

"Bhavesh put one hand on my shoulder and rested the other on the iron board which was touching the electric pole. He immediately received a heavy shock. Bhavesh desperately tried to remove his hand from the board, but could not," said Rupesh, one of the victims.

The boys then cried for help which caught the attention of two policemen standing nearby, including head constable Deepak rushed to help the students, and using his spontaneous wit, he kicked away Bhavesh's hand with force to separate him from the board.

Bhavesh fell unconscious on the ground and was immediately rushed to the hospital, along with the three others.

Doctors, however, declared Bhavesh brought dead. He was a resident of Akola in Maharashtra.

"Bhavesh tried to cross the pavement by holding an iron board just close to the electric pole to avoid water puddles. He got an electric shock and when his friends tried to save him by holding his hand, they also received an electric shock," said DCP (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh.

Along with Bhavesh, Rupesh Jain, Jayesh and Mervyn Roy were pursuing a pilot training course from an aviation academy in Sector 7, Dwarka. The other three students are out of danger.

Police said BSES Manglapuri is responsible for the supply of electricity in the area.

"We have registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 287 of the IPC. Investigation is underway," said Singh.
