Greater Noida: Three persons, including a retired army constable, were arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar police for their alleged involvement in army recruitment scam from Badalpur area of Greater Noida on Wednesday.
Cops said that the accused used to forge documents and domicile certificates to place candidates in the army after taking money from them.
According to police, the arrested persons have been identified as retired army constable Aadesh Kumar and his two accomplices Love Kumar and Pramod kumar, all natives of Agota area in Bulandshahar district.
Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddh Nagar said that the accused persons ran an army coaching centre in Bulandshahr district.
"Aadesh got retired as a constable from Indian Army in 2016 and started a coaching institute, under the name of which they were running an army placement racket," said Krishna adding that the accused used to take favour from few of his colleagues to get the candidates placed in Indian army on these fake documents and domicile.
"During sustained interrogations, the accused told police that they used to take a sum of money between Rs 7 to Rs 10 lakh per candidate to get them placed in Indian Army. Aadesh took advantage of his links in Indian army through which they easily get the forged documents cleared in the verification, medical and physical tests. Preliminary investigations showed that staffers of lower grade in Indian army including constables and from clerical department were working hand in glove with the gang," added Krishna.
Meanwhile police are trying to identify those candidates who have already been placed by the gang by forging their documents.
"As of now we cannot ascertain the number of candidates who have been placed by the gang in Indian army. Investigations are underway and more arrests are likely to be made in connection with the scam," the SSP said.
Police have booked all the three accused under IPC sections of forgery and cheating. Huge quantity of fake ID proofs, medical certificates, admit card, admission forms and other documents have been recovered by police.
