NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is likely to come up with a decision as per which residential quarters for officials will be only approved based on the cadre and designation
According to sources, the government has reports that at times, officials demand and get quarters beyond their position.
To curb such practices, high-ranking officials might take up the matter soon and formulate proper action.
"Officials get quarters based on their designation and post. We have rules and on the basis of that, the allocation of the quarters happen. For every cadre and grade, different quarters are designated," said a source in Delhi government.
Sources said the allocation of quarters happen on the secretary level and does not come under the ministers.
"From the associations and various sources, we have received complaints that there have been mismatches sometimes in the occupation of the quarters. We are thinking of reviewing the matter and taking strong action," said a source.
However, officials denied any such issues in the government and said that they always follow whatever is designated to them.
"These are all rumours and every official is aware of the rules. We always follow instructions, but if somebody has asked or taken any special benefit from any of the officials, then its a matter of investigation and that should happen," said an official.
There is also a speculation that the issue has been raised amid the controversy regarding the services department.
Recently, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal gave "in-principle" approval for restructuring the Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services (DASS) and stenographers cadre, triggering sharp reactions from the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government and various employees.
The AAP said the LG's decision was a "violation" of the Supreme Court's decision and the LG was trying to "cling on" to the 'Services' department to enable the Ministry of Home Affairs to control Delhi government officers. Moreover, the DASS employees sought Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's intervention.
