New Delhi: In coordinated efforts, officers from IGI Airport police station nabbed two petty thieves, accused of stealing from passengers travelling to Delhi, consequently recovering all stolen articles and returning them to their respective owners.
In both the cases, police officers working the case made use of various CCTV footage across the area where the crime allegedly took place. They scouted the areas and accessed the video surveillance controlled and operated by multiple agencies such as CISF and the Delhi Airport Parking Services. In one of the two cases, an American national of Indian origin had reported his laptop bag stolen from the Multi-Level Car Park at the Airport and registered the matter with police.
The laptop bag had around USD 5,000 in cash, one Mac Book, and a pair of Apple earphones.
Police mobilised investigating officers immediately and through recreating the events that led to the crime, identified the alleged thief by matching his clothing from separate CCTV footage. They identified the accused as one Kailash and recovered the stolen laptop bag from his house.
In another case, the complainant had alleged that an Uber driver stole her handbag when she alighted at her destination. Since the cab was booked from IGI Airport, staff from the IGIA police station took up the case and tracked the cab and its driver to a village in Mewat. The complainant's handbag had a laptop, cash, and other valuables totalling Rs 15 lakh.
Police identified the driver as one Nisar, who was arrested only after officers went to his village and conducted widespread intelligence-gathering operations on his whereabouts. They eventually recovered all items reported stolen. IGIA DCP Sanjay Bhatia said, "The work of IGI Airport police in matters like this not only strengthens the image of Delhi Police in the country but also assures foreign visitors that our police teams are competent."
