Air hostess jumps to death from terrace, kin cry foul

New Delhi: Police have started their investigation in the case after air hostess working with German airline died under mysterious circumstances in South Delhi's Hauz Khas area. The deceased family had told the cops that the woman was harassed for dowry. Police claimed that the incident was reported on Friday after she jumped from the terrace. The victim was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, police were also informed about the incident and they started their investigation from all angles.

During investigation, it was revealed that a few minutes before the incident the woman had sent a message to her husband on phone that she will jump from the terrace and he will saw her dead face today. "Her husband works as a software engineer with a company situated in Gurugram. It had been two and half years of their marriage but they had regular fights between them," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya. The DCP further added that during the interrogation of the husband, he claimed that they had another fight regarding some issues after which she went to the terrace and jumped from there and later died. "The deceased woman was the daughter of a retired Army General. Her relatives claimed that she was harassed for dowry," said the DCP.

Police have registered a case under section 304 (B) (Dowry death) of Indian Penal Code. The relatives also alleged that the proper videography was not done and the police told them that they will conduct it again. Rumours were also there that the woman had sent a message to the lawyer about the incident which was completely denied by the DCP. When asked whether any arrest can take place he said after the investigation is completed, they can say something about it. Police are also waiting for the postmortem report in this regard.

The national Capital from the year 2016 to 2018 witnessed several cases regarding matrimonial disputes in which the city police made a probe and further arrests were done. The year 2016 witnessed the higher number of cases reported under the two sections which were around 3,877 whereas in 2017 the number slightly decreased to 2,745 cases. The current year till May witnessed more than 1,000 cases so far. In 2018, around 136 persons were nabbed, last year the arrests had increased as over 1,000 persons were arrested whereas in 2016 city police nabbed 828 persons who were found involved under sections 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust).
