Ahead of festive rush, cops analysing last year's complaints to beat traffic woes

New Delhi: After analysing as many as 140 complaints of traffic snarls received during the 2017 festive season, Delhi Police is this year putting all-round efforts to ensure that traffic jams do not dampen the mood of Delhiites.

Senior officers have asked the deputy commissioners of the Traffic unit to monitor the situation in their areas.

Data of the complaints in 2017, accessed by Millennium Post, gives details about traffic congestions reported at the time of Navratri and Diwali.

Ten complaints were received from Greater Kailash circle during these two festivals, mostly between 2 pm and 5 pm.

In Dwarka circle, six complaints were received, most of which were around 5 pm.

Six complaints each were also from Gandhi Nagar circle and Kotwali circle.

From Subzi Mandi area, five complaints were reported.

In most of these cases, morning congestion was reported around 10 am to 11 am, whereas in the afternoon, the timings were from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The city police analysed 149 such complaints and the different reasons behind the snarls. Senior officers directed the DCPs to ensure that roads are hassle-free.

Police also said they are deploying appropriate manpower in area most vulnerable to snarls.

They will also change the timings of deployment of personnel, depending on when congestion is most severe.

A senior police officer said that they want commuters to use public transport including Metro during the festivals.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar said that necessary steps are being taken to ensure free flow of traffic, adding that they also want market associations to streamline parking facilities.

Security has been hiked at major markets across the city. From CCTV cameras to machans and general patrolling, Delhi Police are making sure that no stone is left unturned.
