After gunbattle, 3 accused held in Dwarka

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday said that they have arrested three persons who were involved in threating businessmen in Delhi.

Police have arrested the accused after a brief gunfight in Kair – Mitraon road in Dwarka. Police identified the accused as Vicky (27), Naveen (20) and Deepak (28). In one incident, these criminals entered into a departmental store in Najafgarh and fired inside to scare the owners to cough up extortion money.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that on September 21, the special staff team under inspector Naveen laid a trap on Kair – Mitraon road. Vicky was spotted on a motorcycle with two of his associates at about 07:40 pm and was asked to stop but he tried to flee.

When chased, their bike fell due to collision. The criminals were asked to surrender but Vicky and his associates opened fire upon the police team.

"After a brief exchange of fire, the team succeeded in arresting all the three criminals. Vicky sustained a bullet injury on his leg while one bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of constable Kulbhushan, which saved him," said DCP Dwarka.

Meanwhile, the police team overpowered the criminals and snatched their weapons from them.

The arrest was made by the team of the inspector (special staff) Naveen Kumar formed under ACP Rajender Singh .

Vicky is the associate of criminal Deepak Dhankhar (at present Tihar Jail). He was arrested in 2017 in an attempt to murder case and came out of Jail in April 2019.

After release from the jail, he restarted extortion activities and sent messages to businessmen to cough up money or face dire consequences.
