NEW DELHI: Day after the election ended in Delhi, the AAP decided a meeting of the top leaders in this week to decide the post-poll action. The sources in the party confirmed that the AAP is in consensus that the party will support non-BJP in the Centre.
"We have maintained that this time our fight is against the Modi-Shah regime and we the senior leaders of the parties will decide on the plan soon. We will support any non-BJP formation in the Centre but they have to accept our demand for giving Delhi full statehood," said a senior leader.
The demand for the full statehood was the key demand of the AAP and the party fought the election with this demand. The AAP is also in touch with the regional parties like Trinamool and TDP among others. "The leaders like Mamata Banerjee and Chandra Babu Naidu have already assured us that they are with us in support of the demand of the full statehood." said a senior leader.
The AAP senior leaders also asserted that the party learned that there would be a lesser possibility of a party with a single majority to form a government in the Centre. Recently in an exclusive interview to the Millennium Post, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, "In this election, AAP's MPs will play a key role in forming the government. Many opposition parties have already supported our demand and the alliance of these parties will form the government in the Centre this time, therefore, we will not face any issues in passing the bill on full-statehood."
Delhi Chief Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal last week said he would support Congress president Rahul Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate if he supported full statehood for the national capital.
"Whichever party forms the next government, excluding the BJP, will have AAP's support only if it supports AAP on the issue of full statehood for Delhi," he said last week. However, the AAP chief earlier also said Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be responsible if Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns to power after the Lok Sabha polls.
