70-year-old woman brutally murdered

New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman who could barely walk was brutally murdered on Thursday by unknown assailants who smashed her face with bricks before making an escape. The police claimed that they have launched the manhunt to nab the accused. The deceased lived with his two sons in Sainik Enclave area and her body was found at a vacant plot at Ranhola in Outer Delhi.

The police claimed that the woman was found in a semi-nude condition but no sexual assault was suspected. The woman was around 40 to 42 kilograms and the cops suspect that someone took her to the plot and then smashed her with a big stone. "She was not able to walk and would always remain in her bed outside the house," said a police officer.

In the morning, the police were alerted about the woman lying in the plot which was near the house of the deceased. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla stated that they have registered a case and the probe is on from all angles. "We have launched the manhunt and the questioning is going on," said the DCP. The police claimed that they are scanning the CCTV of the area to get a clue about the incident.

According to Delhi Police data, in 2016 around 110 cases related to crime against senior citizens were reported in the city which included 19 cases of murder of senior citizens whereas 91 cases of robbery took place in the year 2016. In 2017, around 91 cases of crime against senior citizens were reported in which Delhi Police claimed to solved 64 criminal cases which include 21 cases of murder whereas three cases of attempt to murder and 40 cases of the robbery were worked out. Three rape cases were also solved.
