New Delhi: Six persons convicted under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA) by Delhi court. All these accused were involved in cheating job seekers to the tune of crores of rupees. The Delhi Police said that this is the first major conviction under MCOCA since its invocation in city.
According to Delhi Police press statement, the court of Special Judge MCOCA, Patiala House Courts has convicted six accused persons identified as Vipin Sharma, Sachin Sharma, Honey Shama, Harshad Alam, Aman Alam and Bhupender Singh under the provisions of 3 MCOC Act on May 30.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said that Vipin Sharma (kingpin of syndicate) along with his five other associates including his wife Honey Sharma, his brother Sachin Sharma and Bhupender Singh were arrested by the Special Cell in a case dated August 23, 2008.
"Accused were found involved in multiple cases including cheating, forgery. Several cases were registered in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab," said DCP Special Cell adding that through the crime accused acquired many assets in Delhi and NCR.
Police further added a separate case under section 3 of MCOCA was registered at special cell police station on December 19, 2009 against the six persons as members . They were previously involved in 31 cases between the year 2000 and 2009. The investigating agency said that after the conclusion of the investigation, charge sheet was filed in court against the accused. The case was investigated by L.N. Rao then ACP (since retired as DCP), who had done investigation to prove the guilt of accused involved in this case.
Sub Inspector (SI) Alok Bajpai posted had done good follow up of the trial of the case under the close supervision of Attar Singh ACP, Special Cell (SR).
After the completion of the trial, the court was pleased to convict all the accused.
The accused had ruined the lives of innocent people by showing them rosy pictures and alluring them to provide job opportunities in abroad. The trial court of ASJ Rakesh Syal has also ordered to compensate the victims (total 10 victims) by way of payment of Rs 33.80 lakhs by the members of this syndicate out of the fine imposed on them.
