New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a 45-year-old man died allegedly after an iron rod impaled into his body when he was cutting iron rods at CNG Pump in East Delhi's Gazipur area.
Police claimed that they have registered a case of negligence in this regard and probing the case from all angles to check whether any foul play was involved in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Bobby Panchal (45), a resident of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh.
Police claimed that the incident was reported around 12:30 pm on Monday when he was cutting iron rods seating over the girder of a CNG pump site.
Police sources said the CNG pump had been closed due to the construction of Ghazipur flyover.
Police said as he was cutting iron rods attached to high weight girder of CNG station roof installed on the pillars, it collapsed along with him.
"He was using a gas cutter to cut iron rods attached with girders. Suddenly, the girder collapsed along with him on the ground and he first fell down and the girder collapsed upon him. Besides this, an iron rod embedded with girder also impaled his body. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead," said an investigative officer.
"Prima-facie, negligence has been reported by the contractor as he had not adopted safety measures to be adopted while working," said an official.
Police have sent the body for autopsy and further investigation is on.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh stated that a case registered has been registered against the contractor and investigation is underway as girder of the CNG station fell down when he was cutting the rods.
