Gurugram: The Haryana government has begun preparations for creating a roadmap for its ambitious project of creating a new township Panchgram (five villages), along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway.
Spread across an area of 50,000 hectare, there are plans to acquire land from over 34 villages in Gurugram district.
According to sources, among the villages that are in the fray of being included in the project are Udaypuri, Langra, Pathredi, Bilaspur, Binaula, Bakipur, Taj Nagar, Jatuala, Fajliwas, Banslambi, Janjhraula, Sultanpur, Kakraula, Sayed Pur, Mohammadpur, Hamirpur, Jamalpur and Khaintawas.
In addition to Gurugram, other cities in Haryana where the government wants to build new townships are Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Rewari, Sonepat, Rohtak and Jhajjar.
The state government plans to not only use such a landholding for residential projects, but also for developing new industrial, start-up and innovative centers.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar himself has spoken about Panchgram several times and has mentioned that the project is not only going to boost employment prospects in the state, but will also benefit landowners.
Moreover, the state government has begun the process of floating tenders and, according to sources, private agencies have expressed a interest to invest in the project.
Taking a cue from the growth models of South Korea and Japan, which emphasises on development of public infrastructure such as roads and highways, the central and state governments are implementing a similar model in Gurugram.
The success of this model has been most prominently in Haryana and resulted in rapid growth of its richest district Gurugram.
There has also been the growth of new cities beyond Gurugram like Manesar and Bawal.
Huge investments have been put in by the state and Centre to enhance road infrastructure at Delhi-Jaipur highway, Yamuna Expressway, KMP Expressway and Delhi-Mumbai corridor, a part of passes through Gururgam.
