New Delhi: About 262 evacuees from Rome who were housed at Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) quarantine camp in Chhawla were tested negative for COVID-19.
ITBP PRO Vivek Pandey confirmed the news and said that about 480 people, in two batches, were arrived from Italy to quarantine centre. Earlier the first batch arrived from Milan, Italy of 217 members were tested negative in Corona Virus test after 14 days of quarantine including two members of the group who were tested positive earlier have been recovered and are tested negative.
"Meanwhile in the batch of 263 evacuees, one person was tested positive who is stable at Safdurjang Hospital," he said. The batches were quarantined at Indo-Tibetan Border Police Facility Chhawla since their arrival on March 15 and March 22. The ITBP Chhawla Quarantine Facility has seen more than a thousand evacuees including 42 foreign nationals till date and successfully managed the wellness centre since January 28, 2020.
The ITBP had built a quarantine centre at its Chhawla Camp on January 28 which helped 1,023 people who were evacuated from Wuhan, Italy and a group of Italian tourists. As ordered by the Government of India, DG ITBP had identified the Chhawla Facility for the Quarantine Centre which was then conceptualized on an urgent requirement of the Government.
A special team of administration and logistics constituted to deal with resources required in setting up and functioning of this quarantine centre. 24x7 services of medical teams were always ensured at the centre and disciplined daily routine was followed for the evacuees.
Earlier, ITBP Director-General SS Deswal has written to his personnel urging them to continue practising physical activity. He also asked them to be ready for toughest eventualities.
"Physical activity has become more important in this period of lockdown around us. We are accustomed to physical work in normal times. These are hard times, almost traumatic as many activities are restricted," said DG ITBP.
He urged his men to be ready for toughest eventualities. They are for the country for protection and selfless service. "Fly your ITBP and national flag Tiranga high and higher. Keep it up," he added.
They are proud of their medical and maintenance, supplies team at Chhawla camp, they have rendered selfless services to countrymen. "They always reflected happiness and maintained humility- a way of life by Himveers. All our hospitals are ready to help out and treat our countrymen," he said.
