2019 general elections: AAP's major thrust will be North-East Delhi seat

Update: 2018-09-17 18:16 GMT

NEW DELHI: The AAP is working on strengthening the ground level communication and explaining the works to the volunteers, this work will continue in the coming few weeks before the high voltage campaign starts, explained Dilip Pandey, senior AAP leader and the Lok Sabha prabhari of the party from the North-East Delhi. Pandey told the Millennium Post, "My current goal is to reach the volunteers, talking to them, understanding their views and gathering their trust for work."

In the coming general elections for both national and state politics, the North East Delhi will be a major focus as the current MP Manoj Tiwari is not only a celebrity candidate of the BJP but also he is the chief of Delhi BJP unit. Tiwari fought from the seat first time in the year 2014 and defeated AAP candidate Anand Kumar who was later suspended from the party. In the 2009 election, Congress leader Jai Prakash Agarwal won and became the MP from the seat.

In 2014, Tiwari got nearly 45 percent of the vote followed by AAP's 34 percent and Congress' 16. Like many other seats of the Capital, in this seat too the combined opposition vote share was 50 percent which was higher than the vote share of the BJP. Significantly in terms of vote share in 2014, the vote share of Congress dropped nearly 42 percent as Agarwal won with 59 percent vote share in 2009 general elections. In 2009, the BJP's vote share from this constituency was 33 percent and BL Sharma fought from the seat. In 2014, BJP's vote share increased nearly 12 percent in compared to 2009.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Sunday triggered a controversy by breaking the lock of a sealed house in the national Capital. Tiwari targeted the AAP and the Congress, accusing them of misleading people in the name of converting unauthorized into authorized. The BJP leader said that he broke the seal of the house to oppose the "pick and choose" system.

However, Pandey slammed Tiwari saying that this kind of strategy before the election would not work. "The BJP government is in the Centre and also in the MCD, they have done the sealings themselves but now blaming us. Before the election, they are just trying to get sympathy and this will not work," he said.

Commenting on the issue Puja Bahri, spokesperson of Delhi Pradesh Congress, "This is a drama by BJP. Our campaign and work on the manifesto are going on. BJP is understanding that they are losing the ground."
