Delhi govt team visits transport office to inspect LOI documents

A vigilance team of Delhi government on Thursday went to the transport authority office at North Delhi’s Burari to inspect documents in connection with alleged irregularities in distribution of Letters of Intent for new auto-rickshaws.

“A team of officials from the vigilance department examined several documents pertaining to the Letter of Intent (LOI) distribution matter and recorded statements of a few officers there,” an official said.

Three senior officials, including a deputy commissioner, of Delhi government’s Transport Department were suspended last year in connection with this matter, following which Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said the case would be handed over to the CBI.

The Transport Minister had already made preliminary enquiries in the matter and found out two types of irregularities — the LOIs were issued on pick and choose basis despite orders of the Transport Minister to follow chronological order, and that the LOIs were being handed over to certain intermediaries/unauthorised persons instead of the beneficiaries/applicants.

The matter was referred to Vigilance Department of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD) for further enquiry, the official added.
