Delhi Police in a joint operation with Bihar Police arrested two persons wanted in the murder of Poonam Devi, who won the election to become the mukhiya of Gram Panchayat in Bihar. According to senior police officers, one of the two accused in the case is a contract killer. The accused have been identified as Balram Prasad (42) and Santosh Yadav (26). While Prasad wanted to take revenge from Poonam on his wife’s defeat, the other accused, Yadav was a contract killer who is wanted in two murder cases in Bihar.
Police said that the duo dead Poonam Devi dead on June 3 after she defeated Prasad’s wife to become the mukhiya. A week later, Inderjeet, Poonam’s husband filed a complaint with Chandi police station in Bihar. He told cops that Poonam and the wife of Balram Prasad had contested for the post of mukhiya in which Poonam won the election by a margin of 28 votes. Police further said that Inderjeet told them that enraged over his wife’s defeat, Prasad threatened him and his wife of dire consequences.
According to the police, on June 10, Poonam was riding on a motorcycle along with her husband while her associates were on another motorbike. On reaching Chandi-Harnaut Road, four persons identified as Pappu Singh, Balram Prasad, Santosh Yadav and Pintu Yadav intercepted their vehicles.
One of the accused pulled out a country-made pistol and fired at Poonam, killing her on the spot.
“During the course of investigation, Bihar police came to know that the two accused are hiding in Ashok Vihar in North-west Delhi. Based on technical surveillance and sustained local intelligence of the Delhi Police, the cops from Delhi and Bihar conducted several raids in the area and finally traced the accused in Wazirpur village,” said a senior police official.
