Cops suspended from two police stations for allowing supply of illicit liquor, betting

Delhi Police have  suspended ten police officers posted in two different police stations of the North-east district on the charges of letting illicit liquor supply freely under the jurisdiction of their police stations. According to DCP (North-east) A K Singla, five police officers from the Nand Nagri police station, in the ranks of Constables and Head Constables were suspended on Wednesday while on Friday, five police officers from the Bhajanpura police station in the ranks of Constables and Head Constables, were suspended on charges of letting betting activities take place, on Friday.

Investigators said that a few days back, they found two  cartons of illicit liquor being supplied and sold freely under the area of Nand Nagri. A senior police officer, close to the investigation said: “We received information that two cartons of illegal liquor was being freely supplied and sold in the area of Nand Nagri. Based on this, the senior officers ordered a probe.”

A senior cop said: “Since it is the duty of the police officers of the concerned police station to ensure and keep a tab on these elements in society, we initiated a probe and on Wednesday, found that five police officers — one head constable and four constables — had not performed their duty. It was due to their lack of alertness that large quantity of illicit liquor was allegedly being freely supplied that we suspended them.” In continuance of the same exercise to curb the supply of illicit liquor in the adjoining areas of Nand Nagri, checks were carried out in all police stations and the areas which fell in their jurisdiction.

“Similarly, on Friday, it was found that five police officers- in the ranks of Constables and Head Constables (HC) were found to not conforming to their duties. Since it was allegedly found that betting was taking place in the jurisdiction of Bhajanpura police station and based on this information, these five police officials, posted at the Bhajanpura police station were also suspended,”further said the official.
