A day after Delhi government’s crackdown against civic bodies over a “lack of cleanliness” in the city, the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) accused the government of using political tricks to fulfill its political self interests. Corporation leaders blamed the CM for keeping himself involved in the publicity and expansion of Aam Aadmi Party while neglecting governance in the city.He has also been accused of ensuring that the MCDs fail by using his political power.
North MCD Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar states that there is no point in convening the special session of the Assembly. The city government has gagged the opposition members in the Assembly and they are generally thrown out of the house. “It seems like the Delhi government is scared of of three opposition members in the house. This is why the government is convening a special session on the issues of sanitation to politically pressurize the MCDs. We will not allow the government to malign the MCDs,” said Nayyar.
He stated that the government has done nothing in the fields of water, electricity and sewage.
It has not installed CCTV cameras and has not regularized the temporary staff as promised during the elections. In addition to this the government has failed to provide amenities to the residents.
The government has been convening various special sessions frequently on one issue after the other just to shift the people’s focus away from its failures.
SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma cornered the city government over the strike of Safai Karmcharis, a few months back. “Do you think there would have been a strike if the Government released the prescribed grants on time? He further stated that the Delhi Government has not yet implemented the sanitation bye laws submitted by the MCDs. “It seems that the government headed by Kejriwal has no time to spare to decide important issues,” he said.
On Sunday, the city government issued notices to the MCD officers mentioning 178 points regarding various sanitation deficiencies. If the MCDs start finding lapses of the PWD, DSIIDC and Flood department the government is bound to feel obstacles. It would be best if the government avoids intervening in the functioning of the MCDs.
The district magistrates have issued 178 conditional orders seeking explanation from the civic officials and warned of legal action against them. The move comes days before the Delhi government is scheduled to convene a two-day special session of the Assembly starting June 9 to discuss the working of the three municipal corporations with respect to sanitation.
