Kolkata: The Flying Surveillance Team (FST) of the Election Commission, along with Kolkata Police, has seized about Rs four lakh from the Jorasanko area on Friday afternoon.
According to police, while patrolling in the areas under Jorasanko Assembly Constituency, the FST headed by an Inspector of GST and an officer of Jorasanko police station intercepted a man identified as Prem Kumar Das of Chitpur area on suspicion. During a search of his bag, the FST members found Rs 4,03,500 cash. When asked, the suspect claimed that the money was his business collection. But he failed to produce any relevant documents supporting his claim. Later, the money was seized and subsequently deposited at the Kolkata Collectorate Treasury.
In a separate incident, cops of the Narcotics Cell of Kolkata Police Detective Department seized more than 27 kg of narcotic substance, suspected to be cannabis and arrested three persons, including a woman.
