Kolkata: About 450 people lost their mobile phones at PM Modi’s rally in Asansol.
A public meeting at Asansol’s Polo Ground on Thursday, attended by BJP leaders and workers, including many from Jharkhand, turned chaotic after alleged pickpockets stole around 450 mobile phones from attendees while Modi was addressing the gathering.
The incident led to protests outside Hirapur Police Station late into the night, with victims alleging that police initially refused to register complaints. One attendee said the phone went missing within minutes of keeping it aside and demanded immediate action. The agitation took a political turn when Asansol South BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul arrived at the police station. TMC’s Moloy Ghatak said it reflects the kind of people associated with the BJP campaign.
