A white Hyundai Santro car bearing two stickers – one of Defence Services Officer’s Institute and other of AIIMS – was stolen from South Delhi’s Lodhi Gardens area on Sunday afternoon.
This is the third missing car to worry the police and security agencies ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday.
According to sources, an alert has been issued and security agencies are working to retrieve the vehicle in the wake of terror alerts issued across the country.
Primary investigations revealed that the car, with registration number HR 51T 6646, belongs to an Army doctor Shailendra Singh, currently posted at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Singh is a resident of Yusuf Sarai area in South Delhi.
The police said around 12.15 pm Singh, along with his family, had gone to the Lodhi Gardens for a picnic and had parked his car nearby. Around 2.45 pm, when Singh returned he found his car missing. Singh immediately informed the police. A police team reached the spot and took Singh to the Lodhi Colony police station, where he had filed a missing complaint. The car has two stickers which may be misused by anti-social elements.
“We have already sounded an alert and formed several teams to trace the vehicle,” said DCP (South) Prem Nath.
He said no CCTV camera is installed in the area, where Singh had parked his car. However, the police are scanning the cameras installed in the nearby areas to find a clue about the person who has stolen the car.
This incident comes after the police have been looking for ITBP’s Inspector General’s stolen SUV, bearing a blue beacon, and a taxi that went missing after it was hired for Pathankot, the town where terrorists attacked an airbase on January 2. Police across India are on guard ahead of the Republic Day.
