Aiming to speed-up the Metro expansion on the proposed Dilshad Garden-Ghaziabad route, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Wednesday announced to have resolved the land row.
The land issue has been plaguing the construction of Mohan Nagar and Shyam Park Metro stations.
With the matter being settled, the process to put the construction of the DMRC project on a fast truck has begun, said a GDA official.
GDA officials said that the Sahibabad police station had earlier denied DMRC from starting work for the Shyam Park station on its vacant land alongside the track.
The police station is using this land as the junkyard for its seized vehicles. Although the police station does not have its legal ownership, they have encroached upon the green strip to use the land as the junkyard.
“We had made it clear to them but the police department requested to stay for a while in want of a clearance from the PHQ. However, the GDA diverted the project about 50 metre towards west, paving a way for them to use as it is. Now, the Metro station would be 50 metre towards west from the police station which does not make much difference in the layout of the project,” said an official.
“At Mohan Nagar Metro station, the DMRC needs 24x30 square metre land. The Mohan Meakin Limited, earlier denied to provide land for the Metro station from its Industrial plot. They demanded conversion of land use to commercial in lieu of the acquired land for the Metro station. But now they have agreed when the GDA showed its inability to do so. Now, the deck is clear for the construction of the much-awaited Mohan Nagar Metro station,” added the official.
