20% reduction in commercial vehicles entering city, EPCA lauds Delhi govt
The Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) has heaped praises on the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation for their role in reducing the number of commercial vehicles entering the city by 20 per cent which has also been instrumental in reducing pollution levels. But it has also maintained that there are many challenges coming its way which need to be carefully tackled by the Delhi government.
The body of EPCA which was constituted by the Supreme Court to analyse the status of pollution levels in the city in its report to the Apex Court had stated that the green tax introduced by the Delhi government has reduced the number of trucks by 20 per cent entering through the city. The hearing in the Apex Court with regards to reviewing the green tax will come up on February 29. Speaking To Millennium Post, Anumita Roy Chowdhury of CSE which is also a part of the EPCA said that even though the effort by the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporations in charging the commercial vehicles have been up to the mark, there are still many challenges which have to be tackled effectively by the authorities and that would take months to operationalise.
