A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death while another person was critically injured over a game of cricket in the Shashi Garden locality in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area on Monday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Azhar Ali while the injured as Mujeed. Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused brothers, Abdul Ahsaan and Islam.
Police said that the incident took place on Monday morning when some children in the locality were playing cricket. A fight broke out over some minor issue between Azhar’s son Nayeem and Jumman,the nephew of the accused, Ahsaan. The two children fought for some time till their respective family members intervened. However, at around 9.15 pm, Ahsaan and his brother Islam came to Azhar’s colony to “teach him a lesson’’.
The two accused came with a group of people and started assaulting Azhar, his son Neyam and brother Mujeed. Azhar was attacked with a meat cleaving knife and inflicted grievous injuries to his head while the other two were beaten with rods.
Azhar’s wife made a PCR call after which the police rushed them to a nearby hospital. Later on, Azhar was shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital. However, two days later, Azhar succumbed to injuries.
According to the police, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Pandav Nagar police station.
“Both the accused have been arrested. A few more people attacked Azhar. Search operations are on to nab them,” said an Investigating Officer.
