Kolkata: An expert committee of the state Health department will hold a review meeting at Swasthya Bhawan soon, to ascertain the dengue situation in the state.
Senior officials of the department will examine how many persons have so far died of dengue in various private and state-run hospitals. In a past few incidents, some patients have reportedly died of dengue in some private hospitals in the city. The death certificates issued by the private hospitals also confirmed that the patients died after suffering from dengue.
The department, however, is yet to verify whether the patients actually died of dengue or if there were some other reasons behind their death. The date of the meeting will be fixed after the office opens after Laxmi Puja. The expert committee will also assess the overall situation in the state. It will ascertain how many patients have been affected with dengue in the state since January this year.
A senior official of the department said that the number of affected victims will be much lesser than previous years. The official suspects that recent incidents of rain caused by the cyclonic storm, 'Titli' in various districts might have contributed to the rise in the number of dengue affected victims.
Senior health officials believe that the disease will subside from November as winter sets in.
Private hospitals where patients died of dengue have already been asked to share treatment related documents with the department. In past weeks, a number of patients have died of dengue in some private hospitals.
