New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday said it arrested a sharpshooter of the notorious Neeraj Bawana-Naveen Bhanja gang near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on Saturday, adding that the accused was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest.

Cops said that accused Abhishek had been absconding for the past six months in an attempt to murder case of Lajpat Nagar police station.

On March 26, shots were fired at Pishori Chicken Dhaba in Lajpat Nagar, during which a jeweller's son and his friend sustained bullet injuries and were sent to AIIMS for treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said that during his interrogation, Abhishek disclosed that he used to work for one Shibu, a financier in Lajpat Nagar.

In the past few months, Shibu had come in contact with gangsters Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Bhanja and started extorting money from people on their directions, with Abhishek acting as their loan recovery goon.

Cops said that Bhanja hatched a conspiracy with Shibu to spread the terror of his gang across south and south east Delhi. For this, they dispatched some gang members to beat up and intimidate a jeweller's son in a public place, so as to spread terror among the residents of Lajpat Nagar.

During the incident, Shibu and 15-20 associates had encircled the victim at the Dhaba and started beating him.

When the victim tried to escape the spot, the accused persons, including Abhishek, opened fire on him.
